In the latter part of 2020, Skyline Enterprises quickly responded to the closure of New Zealand’s borders to inbound tourists by making adjustments to their Queenstown and Rotorua Gondola facilities. In light of these changes, Skyline Enterprises commissioned an audit to reassess their business strategy, current and future food and beverage plans, and facilities reinvestment.
Success on Recommendations
This Kiwi tourism business has become an icon by transforming Queenstown’s picturesque scenery into a remarkable hospitality experience for locals and tourists alike.
It all started with an adventurous journey up a mountain track in a VW combi van and afternoon teas served from a thermos flask. This adventure then led to the establishment of a mountain cafe, which expanded further with the addition of a Swiss Alps-style gondola and new facilities, and eventually was duplicated in Rotorua.
Later, the business expanded with the “Luge” attraction developing in multiple locations worldwide.
The client requested an operational audit to assess their Food & Beverage operations, strategic planning, future approach, and redevelopment plans in line with a new environment.
Businesses that operate across multiple locations must engage and adapt to different customer demographics to succeed. Skyline Queenstown is a prime example of a business that has developed a highly effective operation in recent years, optimising all its popular destination.
Our audit highlighted the importance of adapting quickly in the short term while planning for the long term. It emphasized the need to constantly identify and target new and available clientele, adjust the offer to meet current demand, embrace change with conviction and agility, communicate effectively with both new and old clients, and track improvement against key performance metrics. This approach can lead to success for businesses operating in diverse markets.
The outcome of the audit was a powerful reminder that every site performs differently based on its unique characteristics, and as such, needs to be evaluated against its own performance objectives.
