On particularly busy days, Deanna’s successful cookie business faced the challenging decision of having to temporarily close their Shopify ordering site to focus on fulfilling orders for courier pickup. Despite having three physical outlets and a thriving online business, the high demand was causing them to turn away sales and customers.

Since childhood, Deanna had harbored a dream of owning her own cookie shop. As she grew up, she began baking unique and enjoyable cookies and selling them at her store located in central Auckland. Her tasty treats quickly gained popularity and she started receiving custom order requests, prompting her to expand her business by launching an online store to cater to the increasing demand.
However, as her business continued to prosper, Deanna encountered the challenge of maintaining product quality while also meeting the rising demand for her cookies.
The objective was to boost production to the extent without turning customers away, and while ensuring that the customer experience remained exceptional. Our engagement was also to offer an independent perspective on their production process.
To tackle the challenge of maintaining quality while scaling production to meet demand, we assisted to implement a multi-faceted solution.
First, we conducted an analysis of their production process to identify any bottlenecks that were limiting output. This involved mapping out the entire production process and scrutinising each step to identify potential inefficiencies.
Next, we evaluated their equipment and also identified opportunities to replace manual processes with more efficient machinery.
Additionally, we focused on improving their knowledge of how their ingredient formulations behave under different treatments. This helped them to optimise their processes and increase efficiency.
The implementation of a new piece of machinery and the full utilisation of existing equipment resulted in more than doubling Moustache Cookies’ daily output.
By optimising their production flow and shortening the product finishing phase, they were able to increase output volumes.
These changes eliminated turned-away orders and significantly improved the overall customer experience.
